Beginner ? intermediate?

I’ve always tell people “I’m a beginner” when I play my handpan.
Recently, someone told me, “you’re not a beginner !”

How do you know you’ve moved from beginner to intermediate ?

And from intermediate to advanced ?

This is an excellent question ^^
Some people consider themselves as advanced players but their level is not that good. Other people are sure that they are bad but their technique is excellent.
I don’t know if you have ever heard of the Dunning-Krueger effect, but it looks like this :

I consider myself as intermediate because I got the main skills that you need to play the handpan : the speed, the finger technique and the basic composition stuff. I think I still need to work mainly on polyrythms and get more fresh patterns to be an advanced player.

Thank you! Your list is very helpful. I’m intermediate.
I didn’t know the Dunning Kruger effect.
I think I have the opposite: impostor syndrome.

That can be an interesting journey,
were the people on some type of substance or alcohol ?
